Advances in telecommunications and information technology have made it increasingly possible to offer mental health care services over the Internet. Due to Covid-19, I am now exclusively offering online counseling via secure video conferencing.
Online counseling/telepsychology has its benefits and drawbacks and will not be appropriate for everyone. The obvious benefit is convenience. The drawbacks are mostly due to the limitations of the technology, potential security issues, jurisdictional issues (e.g. licensing laws), and safety.
If you are interested in exploring this treatment option, please let me know through my appointment inquiry form. At present, this may only be available for individuals who have no significant safety concerns (e.g., suicidal or homicidal ideation, active substance abuse, or serious mental illness).
PSYPACT (Telepsychology Across State Lines)
The PSYPACT Commission has determined that I have met all requirements for the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) which enables me to practice telepsychology under the authority of PSYPACT in PSYPACT participating states. Currently 42 states or territories have enacted this legislation and allow for interjurisdictional praction. Currently Alaska, California, Guam, Iowa, Hawaii, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Montana, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are non-PSYPACT jurisdictions, though Hawaii, Iowa, Massachusetts, Montana, New Mexico, and Oregon have introduced legislation.
